Free-time readings

Hi! I told you some time ago that I read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Well when I had finished reading it I felt so miserable and vexed for two whole days for I had nothing to read. I wanted to read something in English again and had no good books in my mind and at the moment (even for my own surprise) there was no manga to tempt me. But then I remembered just reading a post from some blog where the writer thought really similarly about Austen's books as I do. And he had really liked Austen's Persuasion. I guess I hadn't even heard of it or maybe just couldn't recollect it. So at the same evening I went to library and borrowed Persuasion and Northanger Abbey. And now I've read the Persuasion and it was so great! Not as great as Pride and Prejudice but that book is one of my favourites and really hard to be beaten so it's no miracle Persuasion cannot be as good as it. Still, Persuasion was really great and I loved to read how the two main characters Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth were so different from the others and how they had kept their love the same despite all the distractions and separations. Also the other characters, like Mr Elliot, were amusing because of their weird habits and other characteristic features. Now my next book will be Northanger Abbey. I've seen the movie adaption of it and it was quite good so the book can't possibly be worse. You know, the book is always better than a movie, or at least as far as can be told by my experience.

I also already checked a new book for me to read after Northanger Abbey. I found from our library's website a book called The masked city by Cogman Genevieve and it sounded quite interesting. We'll see if it's good or not.

The latest manga I just finished was Hirunaka no Ryuusei and this time I didn't have a lot of trouble finding new manga to read. ;) I have a lot of manga to read now! There'll be a few new chapters from Until death do us part, Ao haru ride, Horimiya which I already started to read some time ago, Suki tte Ii na yo, Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet, Hibi chouchou and Kirishima, Bukatsu Yamerutte yo. So yes, when it comes to reading manga I definitely won't be bored. -(^.^)- And I'm also watching the second season from Haikyuu!! and it's just hilarious. I could never read manga or watch anime on a public place 'cause I can't be without laughing when there are funny scenes. I don't own a poker face.

This was a post of all the things I'm reading now or gonna read... I feel like I have a bit too much extra time. Well, whatever, I'm gonna go out to get some exercise. There's not too cold and we just got new snow yesterday so running will be really fun! It's the best feeling when you are running and feel like 'crap I don't have enough power in my body' and just start running faster. And when you see the finish line (which for me is the end of the road) and it looks like it's just over there only a few metres away and you want to get there as soon as possible and it's actually more than 500 metres away. Haha it's so fun. I'm a bit addicted to running. I find some kind of weird pleasure in it.

Day of sunshine

Hello! ^.^ I've started to think that weddings are actually really expensive. And this whole idea came to my mind some time ago when I started to help my sister with her upcoming wedding. I've always (or when I've even thought about weddings or stuff like that anyway) just thought that wedding day is a very beautiful and important day that is a start of a new life for two people. But now there's a whole new side to it! It's also a day that really eats your money if you actually want something special to it. There are million little and bigger things you have to think about, all the planning and making reservations to places and everything. It's really crazy and needs a lot of work. I kind of like it though... I love planning and organizing things. -(ü.ü)/ But think about it. You have to find a church (if you want to have a church wedding), a place to hold the party and it needs to be big enough for all your guests, order a catering and everything related to it, getting decorations, buying or making wedding invitations, finding a perfect dress/suit and rings of course too and after all these you still need to take care of so many other things. And how much will all this cost? Well it of course depends on many things like how many guests you're gonna have, are you gonna buy a new or used dress, what material your rings will be and so on, but it's really hard to get your budget to stay under 5000 euros... And that's a huge sum of money. I don't really know how anyone will ever have so much money to spend for just one day.

If I had my own wedding (and it's a huge if -(T.T)/ lol), anyway if I some day had one I would try to make myself most of the things like decorations, invitations, a dress if I couldn't find a "cheap" one and some foods. And I would make my guest list stay as small as possible but still so that I get there everyone I want to, luckily my family is quite small and I don't have many relatives... Maybe twenty or so. Haha -(^_^)- There are after all some good things about having just a few relatives.

So now if someone didn't yet know that weddings are way too expensive and require a lot of hard work now I've made that clear enough. But still it should be the best or one of the best days in your life so it should be nice. And weddings are always nice, was it your own or not. ^.^

Winter wonderland

Hi everyone! The cold air has lasted here for several weeks already, today we had about -28 degrees... That's actually really cold, -20 is nothing compared to it. This time you are gonna get a lot of pictures (again) because I've been photographing a lot lately.

 

Yesterday I went to a job interview, hopefully I could get a job for the spring and summer. I really need one, I'm running out of money and things to do. I have way too much free time now and I'm doing my best to occupy myself. I've even made a list of things I can do... And that list is long, luckily.

 

 

I tried to draw something with a bit different style than I normally use. These first ones turned out quite ok.

I went to my grandparents' place about a week ago. They didn't have as much snow as we have but quite enough to get nice photos (all above).



 

That was a really gorgeous sunset about 3.30pm... We were in a place were my sister rides, not a horse but a pony because she is so short and small in every way that she can still ride a pony. And I can tell you that it's quite difficult to take pictures with two pairs of mittens in hand so my fingers were completely frozen. So were my toes and legs... But otherwise I just loved being outside!

 

 

 

 

Yesterday I went out with our dog and found these beautiful plants covered with snow and I had to go back there with my camera. Our dog can't stay outside for a long time because her paws will freeze so I couldn't take her out with me for a second time. Poor thing.

 

This time I'm gonna introduce you to a bit different kind of music. I love to listen these kind of songs too, especially when I'm drawing. They are just so inspiring. Maybe there's some truth in that study (or something like that) that when you are listening to classic music you learn better... Maybe. But these are not classic, I don't really know what genre these songs could belong to. Could be some kind of pop. ^^'

New year, same me

Heey! It's been almost a month since I last wrote here! o.o'' sorry... I've been on the go almost all the time or then just busy with doing chores or spending time with friends. Now I'm gonna tell you only bits and pieces of the last month because if I told everything... Well that would become a way too long post.

 

At the beginning of December I still had to write a few long things to school and well actually I made this one ten-page-essay in two days... I was kind of in a hurry. Then I used quite a bit of time (and money) to go meet my friends. It's always expensive for me to see my friends 'cause none of them lives in the same city as I. But what wouldn't one do for her dear friends. -(^.^)- I would go to the other side of the world to meet them and of course because that would just be so much fun.

 

Also before Christmas I made a gingerbread Donald Duck -family with my sisters. We were going to make only Grandma Duck's car but then we decided to do a bit more.

 

 

Just some snacks I made. There are rye chips with tomatoes on the left, Anzac-cookies and Poor knights (a Finnish dessert).

On Christmas we ate a lot of food! Haha \(ë.ë)/ There's a big rye bread, carrot casserole, rutabaga casserole, liver casserole, vegetable salad, ham, whipped cream, prunes and something more. In the mid picture there's our little dog. :)

 

 

During Christmas-time I made two dresses and crocheted one rug. I still have at least one skirt to make... Argh.. I'm so not photogenic. I don't know how to be normally in a picture and if I do the picture's not gonna turn out to be good. Would be nice to look like a human once in while in photos. -(T.T)-

 

 

Around New Year one of my friends was here for a few days. We really had a great time! -(ü.ü)/ We watched movies, played many games, watched fireworks and of course warmed (mini)marshmallows on a candle. We also had some company of my little sister and her friend who came back home after New Year's Eve. I also started to read Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in English. I haven't read that book yet and now after reading it a while I've noticed how some words are really oldish and more difficult to understand. I need my dictionary while reading it. -(o.o')-

 



 

Now we've finally got some snow on the ground and for the past week it's been über cold here. It's always been more than -20 degrees and once it was over -30 degrees. That was cold. I went to see my friend a few days ago to Espoo and I new it was gonna be cold so I wore thick tights with my skirt. Still, after walking a bit over a kilometre I could hardly feel my legs and my face was frozen. ^^' Welcome to the freezer. Well now it's not so cold anymore, maybe only -13 degrees. That's almost warm! In the lower pic there's the sun on the right and a bit weird-kind-of rainbow, 'cause it was snowing from a clear sky. Also worth mentioning, Finland won gold in the young's ice hockey world cup! Wohoo!!!

 

Now I still have to decided what I should do with my spring. Should I go to Tasmania to do some volunteer work or should I try to get a job from here. Also I have to apply to several schools and finish one pre task, it has to be sent before 27th January. I'm not in a hurry yet but soon I'll be. No time to slack off.

A lot of work

To start with everything I need to do now... And during the upcoming weeks 'til about 20th January. O' I'm so busy. Well for the next Wednesday I have to create a power point presentation about my three-months-trip in Australia. That should be about 20 minutes long... I'm actually glad it doesn't have to be longer than that. I just put together some pictures and maybe write something and then I just have to talk. Yea it's not so bad. But then I also have to figure out as soon as possible what I'm gonna do next spring. And that is difficult. I've sent a lot of emails to different places around the world where I could go and do some volunteer work or even something but for now no luck with that. Maybe I'm also just a bit too picky about the places I could go to. But then if I can't go overseas now and there're no studies I could start after New Year I just have try to get a job. Which is a battle I haven't won so many times, unfortunately. I hope there's something I could do next year because I c can't spend my time just being at home doing nothing... That drives me crazy. I'm not the kind of person who can just sit and watch TV all-day-long. Luckily I already know one or two study programs I'm gonna apply to next spring and for one of those I have to make a pre-task. It has to be ready 'til 27th January so I don't actually have a lot of time to make it but it's not so difficult task. I just have to draw one picture, write one short text, make another picture or sculpture or whatever and then make a portfolio. It's not that difficult, right? That's probably all I have to do now, or so I think.

Well then there's Christmas when I'm (hopefully) not gonna do anything related to work or school. And then there's New Year when I'll go to my friend's place in East-Finland. That'll be so much fun. Her home is so close to Russia that she can actually see the lights from the border gates (or whatever you call that... I'm not sure I even know the right Finnish word.. -^^'-). Well, I hope there's snow because we don't have snow here now and I doubt we'll have it 'til Christmas either, which really sucks. Here in South-Finland it's almost like we would have one season in a year and that's a long long autumn. With some colder and warmer days. I miss the Finland we had some years ago. When the weather wasn't this warm at this time of the year (T_T) and when we had really warm and sunny summers. That's what I like. I guess I have to move a bit norther.

You know, I would like to start some hobby again. I could try dancing or fencing this time. I love dancing, I'm not good at it (or so I think) because I've never practiced it but I would really love to learn. Maybe I could try either some Latin dance like salsa or then contemporary dance. I think those could suit me better than for example hip-hop or street dance. Maybe... And fencing would also be so interesting! I love martial arts and I've tried karate a bit and it was really fun but maybe this time I could try fencing. I still haven't found that one thing I would like to practise for a longer time.

But now I have to go make supper 'cause there are some people (= my older sister's bf and his little brother) coming here and my sister asked me to make something to eat. I thought about making some warm breads, snacks and then we have gingerbread men and maybe something else. Well, people won't eat so much at this time of the day anyway so there doesn't have to be so much food. -(ü.ü)-

Home again

Sorry I've been incredibly busy for a while now so I haven't had time to write here. But to update my daily life, I left the warm Australia 19th November and came back to this cold, grey and rainy Finland which still happens to be my home... So now here I am and I'm still trying to get used to this coldness.

This week's gone pretty fast. I've been to Helsinki a few times and then me and my little sister made a gingerbread Viking-ship to her school. 'Cause they have this kind of a market sale there today. Then last Wednesday I got to know that I have to write (again) an essay that's ten pages long and make a 20 minutes long presentation about my Australia -trip... And all that has to be done before 17 December and I have other life too! I'll be so busy... O' and I should also figure out very soon what I'm gonna do after New Year.. Can I go overseas again, do I go study something for few months or do I try to get a job. That last one would really be just trying... It's very difficult to get a job. Or a job that would be a nice one. '(-_-)'

But it's nice that now I can see my friends. About every week I'm gonna go somewhere to meet someone or then someone's gonna come here, and that's so fun. -(*.*)/

some things worth mentioning

I've finally realised a few career paths that are definitely not for me. Those are for example works where I have to 1. cook/bake, because even if I actually sometimes manage to make something good most of the time I just screw up. 2. take care of plants, I've even killed a cactus. 3. work hard outdoors, especially on summer that's horrible, there are a lot of bugs and it's so hot and I get all sweaty (yak) and I'm not physically strong enough for work like farming. 4. stare the computer whole day through, my eyes start to hurt at the end of the day. 5. be involved with sick people, if I see for example chickenpox I feel like vomiting, the same happens if I have to clean others' vomits etc. So yea, there are a few things I can't think of a career for me. I'm glad I've learned to know even that much! I would need a work that's very versatile, also because I get bored doing the same thing all the time.

You know, now being in Australia I've noticed the good things about Finland. I kind of knew that was gonna happen, or it usually happens to people when they go overseas for a longer time. They realise all the good things about their home country. But about Finland I really miss the winter right now. I'm actually more of a winter person, I love it. The cold weather that pinches your face when you go out, snow that makes this very funny squeaky sound under your feet, all the beautiful winter clothes and boots you can wear and of course when the air gets misty when you exhale. Winter is so beautiful time of the year. And this is something I already appreciated in Finland: sunshine. Here it's something these people can take for granted but it's definitely not the same in my country. Here it's sunny almost everyday and you're like 'oh okay, it's sunny again today' but in Finland you're like 'oooh! It's sunny! Let's go out.' I also love Finnish spring, or maybe I could just say I'm a fan of four different seasons in a year. All in all I've found Finland a very good country to live in, despite the long dark season on autumn... But here the biggest problem for me is the heat and humidity. And it's only starting to get warm! Maybe I'm just too Finnish to like sunbathing on the beach. Plus I like my white skin and I burn too easily. -(ü.ü)/ But there's at least two things I would really like to change about Finland. People should be more open and just talk to each others, even to the strangers. And also outside bars. And that shouldn't be considered weird. The other thing is the way men dress up... Because in Finland so many men really have no sense of even a bit stylish way to dress. No, no-one needs to look like a model but it would be so great if some men would see even the tiniest bit of effort to not look like a garbage bag (sorry my brutal way of saying this). Luckily there are also always exceptions, and especially when you go closer to the capital area. But yea, it's really none of my business to say what people should look like. That was just my opinion. ;) But in my defence, most guys want to see pretty girls/women and just so you know, we usually spend some amount of time in the morning to make ourselves look even decent. So I don't think it's too much to expect the same from men.

Anyway, everyone who hasn't been to Finland, please go there, even once in your life! Because that country is beautiful. Yes we don't have mountains like Norway has and we don't have a gorgeous ocean but there are many other things in Finland. You just need to look at things the right way. (that actually doesn't sound like a good salesman speech... -(^.^')- ) But I think that way you can find beauty where-ever you are.
